HyTROS

HyTROS — Hydrogen Transport, Offshore and Storage — investigates hydrogen infrastructure. Utrecht studies transport and storage requirements alongside the integrity of clay-rich caprocks.

RESEARCH FOCUS

Utrecht’s contribution.

Caprocks seal geological reservoirs. Their response to repeated storage operations is central to assessing hydrogen containment.

  • Connect hydrogen transport and storage options with infrastructure requirements.
  • Investigate caprock response to pressure cycling and hydrogen exposure.
  • Examine coupled thermal, hydraulic, chemical and mechanical processes, including hydrogen sorption.

Material responses are interpreted within their loading and exposure conditions; they do not certify the suitability of a storage site.
