Utrecht University Hydrogen Initiative

Events

The Utrecht University Hydrogen initiative aims to occasionally organize events for (non-)researchers to learn more about the field of hydrogen and academic research. On this page, we will regularly post upcoming events organized by the initiative.

Opening of the Utrecht University Hydrogen Lab
Tuesday 10th February 2026 (15:30-17:00)
Utrecht University announces the official opening of the Utrecht University Hydrogen Lab on 10 February 2026. Partly funded by the Dutch Groenvermogen Groeifonds programme, the state-of-the-art facility strengthens the university’s contribution to the national energy transition and advances hydrogen research.
The opening ceremony will feature reflections by Prof. Dr. ir. Wilco Hazeleger (Rector Magnificus, Utrecht University) on sustainability and energy innovation, a keynote by Dr. Jörg Gigler (Managing Director, Topsector Energy) on national hydrogen developments, and presentations by Prof. Gert Jan Kramer and Dr. Hamed Aslannejad on hydrogen’s role in the energy transition and the initiative’s research agenda.

The programme concludes with a panel discussion, ribbon-cutting, guided laboratory tours, and a networking reception.
